Ducks Unlimited (DU) is proud to announce full funding for the upcoming Wildcat Marsh project on Richland Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA), 68 miles southeast of Dallas near Richland-Chambers Reservoir. Funding comes from two area foundations and several corporate partners working through the Texas Water Action Collaborative led by Texan by Nature.
“The Texas Water Action Collaborative matches funders to projects to accelerate investments that benefit water resources,” said Taylor Keys, director of programs at Texan by Nature, “Texan by Nature is proud to build collaborative partnerships with our partner, DU through projects like Wildcat Marsh to activate tangible benefits for water, biodiversity, and people that are critical for Texas’s future.”
Working with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and with support from the Texas Water Action Collaborative partners, DU will install new water-control infrastructure to enhance the Wildcat Marsh area's water holding capacity.
“Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is excited to work with Ducks Unlimited and the Texas Water Action Collaborative on this latest project to add wetland acreage to Richland Creek WMA,” said Matt Symmank, area manager of Richland Creek WMA. “We appreciate the generous donations from our corporate and foundation partners as an investment in both wildlife habitat development and clean water for the benefit of all Texans.”
The new Wildcat Marsh is a 111-acre unit that will provide excellent migrating and wintering waterfowl habitat and improve water quality within the Trinity River Basin. Project work will begin once the site dries out from spring flooding.
