Teach Your Children Well
In 1970, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young released the song Teach Your Children, offering lyrical guidance that has stood the test of time. In the case of the Allen family of Asheboro, North Carolina, that advice has been well taken.
Todd Allen became a Ducks Unlimited member in November 1996 by way of the Randolph County dinner in central North Carolina. In the years thereafter, he became a regular attendee at the nearby Jamestown and Randleman events before eventually becoming involved with the Asheboro chapter in 2013. Around that same time, his son, Dex, who was affiliated with the Varsity chapter at Randleman High School, began attending the Asheboro event with Todd. And in 2014, Todds daughter, Sarah, attended the Asheboro dinner for the first time. This is how the Allen family legacy in North Carolina DU was born.
Since the beginning of their association with DU, the Allen family has supported the organization personally, professionally, and through volunteer leadership. Dex and Sarah have served as co-chairs of the Asheboro chapter for several years. Through the family business (Allen Machine and Fabrication), which Todd owns and operates with Dex and Sarah by his side, custom fire pits, oyster tables, and even patio furniture have been featured in DU live auctions around the state.
This past February, North Carolina DU recognized Todd, Dex, Sarah, and Sarahs husband, Justin, at the Asheboro event for their collective contributions to DUs Major Sponsor campaign. Todd recently completed his Diamond Life Sponsor commitment, Dex has pledged his support as a Diamond Life Sponsor, and Sarah has pledged as a Life Sponsor.
As a result of the familys generosity, DU was able to apply their contributed funds to a challenge-grant opportunity offered by a North Carolinabased foundation, which ultimately helped unlock an additional $37,500 in funding for conservation. DU is exceedingly grateful for the patronage offered by the Allen family and those like them who continue to advance conservation throughout North America.
