Dont miss the second annual Montana Ducks Unlimited (DU) Ice Fishing Tournament set for Feb. 19 at Canyon Ferry Reservoir.
DU is giving away more than $13,000 in cash and prizes! The Big Fish prize is $2,500 and the angler with the largest walleye and perch will each win $1,000. Registration starts at 7 a.m. in the large tent on the ice at the Silos boat launch.
Official tournament rules and registration information can be found at www.ducksonice.org.
Big ticket prizes include Charles Daly over/under 20-gauge shotguns, Kenetrek boots, Vortex Viper 10X42 binoculars, an Otter Vortex Lodge fish house, Sitka Mountain 2700 backpacks, Aqua View 715C cameras, Camp Chef pellet smokers and $250 in Kenyon Noble gift cards.
Tournament species are walleye, perch and burbot (aka. ling). Entry fees are $40 per person until Feb. 18 and $50 on the day of the event. The youth division (age 17 and under) entry fee is $30 per person until Feb. 18 and $40 on the day of the event.
The top 10 prizes are determined by the heaviest single fish and the time the fish is registered for two categories: Walleye and perch. There is not a separate category for burbot, however burbot are eligible to win the Big Fish prize, a standalone category, for the tournament. Youth and adult participants are eligible for the Big Fish prize. Back by popular demand is the Smallest Fish contest. The winner will also win a cash prize.
Get to your fishing hole quicker by flocking to The Silos Junction Bar and Grill at 6999 US HWY 287, Townsend, for a pre-registration party from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18. The party is free and you can pick up your tournament registration information there. Food and drinks will be available to purchase onsite and there will be raffles and a small silent auction.
Grab your gear and your friends and get ready for a great day on the ice. We cannot guarantee you will catch the big one, or the small one, but we can guarantee you will have a great time while supporting DUs conservation efforts throughout the Montana.
