We are in my home state of Kentucky and we are hunting a few miles from Southern Illinois, in Ballard County, Hudnall said. This area is right in the middle of the Mississippi Flyway and a lot of ducks come through here.
The first morning of the hunt in a flooded timber hole was a wet but rewarding endeavor.
The rain started to pick up a little bit, but low and behold, the mallards started coming in and we were able to pick up a few ducks, said Higdon Outdoors Ben Higdon. That was icing on the cake.
And there was no shortage of decoys to lure the ducks in.
This is, hands down, probably the most technically insane duck hole I have ever hunted, Hudnall said. I lost count of the number of motion decoys. I think they said they use 30 dozen floater decoys and over 40 decoys on motion sensors. Its quite the spectacle.
Higdon feels that spectacle would not be possible without Ducks Unlimited.
The DU partnership is a natural fit for us, he said. My dad was a DU guy. Im a DU guy. This is something we believe in and our business would not exist without the conservation efforts of Ducks Unlimited.
Also on DU TV this week: DU CEO Dale Hall talks about the status of wood ducks. DU Magazine Shotgun Columnist Phil Bourjaily shows you how trap shooting can help your duck hunting success and Retriever Trainer Mike Stewart explains how to care for your duck dogs feet.
