National Hunting and Fishing Day is Saturday, Sept. 23

JEFFERSON CITY, Kansas Aug. 18, 2017 - Ducks Unlimited is pleased Gov. Sam Brownback is drawing attention to the role hunting and fishing plays in conserving Kansas natural resources. Gov. Sam Brownback signed a proclamation today declaring Saturday, Sept. 23, as National Hunting and Fishing Day in Kansas.

Kansas Ducks Unlimited volunteer Doug Unruh was a part of the state capitol signing event.

On behalf of the more than 15,000 Ducks Unlimited members in Kansas and more than 700,000 members nationally, I would like to thank Governor Brownback for asking DU to participate in honoring hunting and fishing in our great state, Unruh said. Acknowledging contributions made by the conservation and sportsmen community will help secure future funding for conservation throughout Kansas, while also promoting our long-honored traditions.

National Hunting and Fishing Day, set this year for Saturday, Sept. 23, was established in 1972 to celebrate and recognize hunters and anglers for their immense contributions to fish and wildlife conservation, and to our society.

Hunters and Anglers have long been the backbone of fish and wildlife conservation and Ducks Unlimited is honored to have been a part of the ceremonial proclamation today. said Michael Findlay, government affairs representative for Ducks Unlimited. "We are glad Governor Brownback recognizes the unique ways conservation, hunting and fishing strengthen our communities and improve quality of life for all. We look forward to working with the governor and administration in improving, restoring and constructing wildlife habitat for future generations.
