MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Oct. 10, 2019 - The Greater Memphis IT Council hosted its inaugural Tech Day on Oct. 4, supporting career education for the East High School T-STEM Academy junior and senior classes.

Greater Memphis IT Council member organizations provided educational tours as part of a day of field trips to provide insight and inspiration on careers in technology.

The junior and senior classes contain 150 students taking part in this Shelby County School STEM program focusing on the field of transportation and logistics. In addition to tours of tech companies, the students learn about college opportunities with Southwest Tennessee Community College associate degrees in information technology and University of Memphis bachelor&squo;s degrees in engineering.

"Ducks Unlimited is proud to support the Greater Memphis IT Council&squo;s Tech Day,&dquo; said Ducks Unlimited Chief Information Officer Govan Hornor. "Tech Day is a unique way to discover the options available to local students interested in careers in transportation, logistics, information technology and more.&dquo;

In addition to Ducks Unlimited, 2019 Tech Day participating organizations included the City of Memphis, Expedient Data Centers, First Tennessee Bank, IMC Companies, JuicePlus+, ProTech Systems Group, Southwest Tennessee Community College, ServiceMaster and the University of Memphis - Herff College of Engineering.

Since 1984, East High School has operated a STEM and engineering optional (magnet) program in its school. East High School is uniquely poised to continue a rich legacy as a STEM magnet high school. The T-STEM Academy at East High School, in partnership with the University of Memphis and various industry partners, is a world-class magnet school providing a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum for students and preparing them for success in STEM careers including the transportation sector and beyond.
