Construction has begun on the West Unit of Indianola Wildlife Management Area in the Mississippi Delta. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks acquired the old catfish pond complex to create a new public wildlife management area and asked DU to help improve the area for waterfowl. DU is removing interior levees and grading pond bottoms to combine small ponds to form larger moist-soil and flooded agricultural impoundments. This project will enhance a total of 120 acres. The Walker Foundation's generous support for the Indianola WMA enhancement project enabled partners to secure a North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) grant.
