California Grasslands

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Sept. 9, 2021 - In California Grasslands, DU Conserve Films travels to California's San Joaquin Valley, home to thousands of migrating Pacific Flyway waterfowl. The San Joaquin Valley is also where DU partners with state and federal organizations to conserve California's historic grasslands habitat.

"Working together is a key for the grasslands" said Matt Kaminski, DU regional biologist for the San Joaquin Valley, Southern California and Arizona. "It's not about just working on public land, it's not about just working on private land, it's working together. It's not about property lines. These wetlands all function together. DU works on everybody's land preserving habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife."

Water is always a big factor in California wetlands conservation, and strict regulations on water usage are the norm. Times are tough throughout California's Central Valley with drought conditions further tightening water-control measures.

DU will continue working hard throughout the Pacific Flyway and all North America to ensure a bright future for waterfowl and clean water benefiting wildlife and people. Along with our incredible state and federal partners, DU is committed to waterfowl and wetlands conservation, no matter the conditions.

"The only way we are going to be successful, and the way Ducks Unlimited has always been successful, is through partnerships," said Anne Hansen, DU senior director of development in Northern California and Hawaii.
