The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has committed an additional $10,000 to Ducks Unlimited through its state grant program, bringing the commission's total contribution to $35,000 for the current fiscal year. Since 2003, the FWC has contributed $195,000 to DU through this program.
Florida's contribution is combined with other state grants focused on habitat restoration in Manitoba's Prairie Pothole Region, which is matched by DU, DU Canada, and other partners, leveraging Florida's contribution many times over. Over the past five years these contributions have helped DU protect, restore, or enhance 235,059 acres of prime waterfowl breeding habitat and positively influence an additional 1.2 million acres in Canada.
