Ducks Unlimited is working with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to identify potential projects for funding through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF). This funding is part of the recent $2.4 billion settlement with BP stemming from the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. The funds received by NFWF will be directed toward coastal acquisition, restoration, and enhancement projects.
Fifty percent of the funds will go to Louisiana and the remainder will be split among the other Gulf Coast states of Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Texas. Funding will be available over several years and is separate from the pending Natural Resources Damage Assessment/Clean Water Act violation settlement against BP, which will be directed by the RESTORE Act. Approximately $350 million will be allocated by NFWF for work in Florida.
