The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department increased its state grant allocation from $75,000 to $250,000 in 2013. This commitment brings Texas's cumulative contribution to $3 million for habitat conservation work on the Canadian breeding grounds. Funds are directed toward areas known to produce the highest proportions of ducks that migrate to Texas in winter.


The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA) State Grants Program, established in 1965, is funded through hunting license sales. The distribution of available funding is decided by each state's wildlife agency commission, following a request for funding proposals. Texas has been participating in this program since 1985. Thanks to DU's ability to leverage this conservation funding, Texas's new commitment will yield a minimum of $1 million for waterfowl habitat conservation in Saskatchewan.
