MEMPHIS, Tenn. - August 4, 2021 - This week Ducks Unlimited Television (DU TV) takes you to the Prairie Pothole Region of South Dakota, a top conservation priority for DU and home to a plethora of waterfowl and other wildlife.

In this episode, DU TV co-host Doug Larsen joins DU staff members and donors hunting ducks and geese among the prairie potholes. The group also goes after ringneck pheasants, a prime South Dakota upland species and one that also benefits from DU&squo;s wetlands conservation work.

A big part of DU&squo;s South Dakota efforts are related to soil health. There is a direct correlation between soil conditions and exceptional wetlands landscapes.

"A lot of people have struggled with how to manage water on this landscape,&dquo; said DU&squo;s Manager of Conservation Programs in South Dakota Bruce Toay. "We (DU) have opened a lot of eyes by focusing on the importance of soil health and its role in wetland habitat management.&dquo;

By incorporating diversified crop rotations, reducing tillage, and incorporating cover crops, producers can improve soil structure and increase organic matter and microbial diversity in their soil. These practices benefit farmers by increasing nutrient and water availability to plants and reducing fertilizer loss. They also improve adjacent aquatic habitat by reducing runoff and wetlands sedimentation.

Also included on this episode of DU TV, shotgun expert Phil Bourjaily introduces new DU TV sponsor Tetra Hearing and their product lines on "Guns and Gear,&dquo; and DU CEO Adam Putnam discusses wildlife diversity and wetlands conservation on "Insights.&dquo;

DU TV airs Tuesdays at 1 a.m., Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m., Fridays at noon, Saturdays at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Mondays at 3 a.m. (all times Eastern) on the Sportsman Channel. The Saturday 2 p.m. slot anchors "The Landing Zone presented by Ducks Unlimited&dquo; waterfowl and upland hunting lineup. Bonus content and classic episodes can also be found at www.ducks.org/dutv.
