SENECA FALLS Jan. 31, 2017 Ducks Unlimited recently recognized Seneca Meadows Landfill, Seneca Falls, New York, as a Ducks Unlimited Heritage Sponsor. The Heritage Sponsor honor recognizes a significant level of support and commitment to Ducks Unlimited, the world leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation.
As part of this commitment, The Ducks Unlimited-Seneca Meadows partnership was established to promote environmental conservation. Already the partnership has resulted in members of Ducks Unlimiteds youth program, Greenwings, learning about placing and realizing results with duck nesting boxes on the Seneca Meadows Wetlands Preserve.
"Seneca Meadows continues to be a leader in promoting responsible conservation for the benefit of waterfowl, wildlife and people," said area Ducks Unlimited chairman Mike Ernst. "We are proud to have them as a partner in New York."
Seneca Meadows' commitment supports Ducks Unlimiteds Completing the Cycle Initiative along the Atlantic Coast. This initiative focuses wetland habitat conservation efforts to address the needs of Atlantic Flyway waterfowl throughout their life cycle, of which the region supports an estimated 7.6 million breeding waterfowl, representing 34 different species. Wetland conservation work along the Atlantic Coast also benefits the 900 other species of wildlife that rely on wetlands.
Ducks Unlimited has a history of conservation work near Seneca Meadows. Over the last decade, DU and its partners have protected or restored more than 5,600 acres in the Montezuma Wetlands Complex of Central New York. The conservation projects provide critical breeding and migration habitat for over one million waterfowl and other wildlife, as well as opportunities to engage the public in outdoor recreation.
Ducks Unlimited Inc. is the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America's continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 13.8 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever.
