ALBANY, New York - July 22, 2016 - New York drivers can soon show their support for Ducks Unlimited with the official Ducks Unlimited specialty state license plate.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation Thursday authorizing the plate. The law takes effect Jan. 17. Drivers can eventually order the Ducks Unlimited license plate for their vehicle or trailer the same way they order all New York license plates.

Details about the plate's design and how to order the plate will be posted at www.ducks.org/new-york as they become available.

Ducks Unlimited's plate is one of the first new specialty license plates to be approved in New York in 12 years.

"This is a significant victory for DU in the state of New York," said Duane Arnister, Ducks Unlimited state chairman in New York. "We are grateful for the efforts of Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner, and Gov. Cuomo for his support."

Arnister also thanked former Ducks Unlimited state chairmen Joey Nicosia and Paul Brody for starting the process years ago.

"This plate is a tremendous way to create awareness and educate people about our conservation cause," said Nicosia, DU state council chairperson. "I want to thank all members of the New York legislature who supported this bill, especially Sen. Michael Nozzolio for his efforts to get the New York Senate to support our license plate, and Assemblyman Bob Oaks for his help."

Ducks Unlimited was established in 1937 and is the world's leader in waterfowl and wetlands conservation. In New York alone, Ducks Unlimited has invested $34.2 million and conserved 51,000 acres of wetlands. More than 15,000 Ducks Unlimited members live in the Empire State.

"The conservation of our wetlands and open spaces is critical to the environmental health of New York State," said Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner. "I was proud to support the mission of Ducks Unlimited by introducing and passing this important legislation."

"It was an honor to provide New York with the opportunity to recognize and honor the great work of Ducks Unlimited, an organization that has a long, deep and profound positive impact on our environment", said Sen. Nozzolio. "I am extremely pleased that Gov. Cuomo has signed this important recognition into law."

Ducks Unlimited Inc. is the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America's continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 13.6 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever.
