National Hunting and Fishing Day (NHF), set for Saturday, Sept. 28, celebrates hunting, target shooting and fishing. National, state, regional and local organizations host related events.

Launched in 1971 by Congress, NHF Day recognizes hunters and anglers for their wildlife and conservation leadership.

Each year, thousands of people attend NHF Day events throughout the country honoring hunting and fishing’s wildlife and fisheries conservation contributions. Ducks Unlimited is proud to be a part of this traditional day, one of the most effective campaigns recognizing hunters and anglers and their conservation dedication.

"Hunters and anglers have always been the backbone of conservation, giving back more to the outdoors than any other group," said DU Chief Conservation Officer Dr. Karen Waldrop. "Through self-imposed fees and taxes, sportsmen and sportswomen have raised over $57 billion—more than $100,000 every 30 minutes. This dedication has built the largest grassroots conservation movement and made the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation the most successful in the world. DU is grateful to Bass Pro Shops, Wonders of Wildlife, and all our partners for preserving our heritage. Let’s continue this success by inspiring the next generation—take the pledge to introduce someone to hunting, shooting, or fishing on National Hunting and Fishing Day!"

And Conservation For a Continent. Our Wetlands. Our Legacy, Ducks Unlimited’s international fundraising campaign to protect and restore wetlands across North America, aims to raise $3 billion by 2026 to provide cleaner water for communities and wildlife. That means more places to hunt and fish.

One of NHF's main goals is to recruit new hunters and anglers by encouraging participation and increasing public awareness of the connection between hunting, angling and conservation.

NHF Day is the largest, most effective grassroots movement ever to promote outdoor sports and conservation.
