VANCOUVER, Wash. Dec. 1, 2021 Ducks Unlimited (DU) recently named Matt Little as its Western Region Director of Public Policy, adding more than 20 years of conservation policy experience with federal natural resource agencies and leading conservation organizations in the Pacific Northwest to the organization.

"Matt brings a wide range of experience in the conservation community both on the West Coast, across North America and beyond," said DU Chief Policy Officer Zach Hartman. "His valuable insight will help DU advance our wetland habitat restoration goals in the Pacific Flyway. We're thrilled to welcome him to the best policy team in conservation and can't wait to hit the ground running."

As Director of Public Policy for the Western Region, Little will help determine conservation priorities at state, regional and federal levels, help grow state and regional coalitions and join DU volunteers to advocate for initiatives that help North America's wetlands and waterfowl.

"Since I was a Greenwing, hunting and fishing the prairie potholes of Minnesota, I have always admired DU's mission," said Little. "I am honored to join such an amazing team of professionals working to increase habitat and provide more opportunities for future generations to have the same experiences I had growing up."

Little received a biology degree from Dartmouth College before earning a master's degree in public administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. He began his career at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where he was the staff lead for the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission (MBCC), which is responsible for allocating Duck Stamp dollars and approving North America Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) projects. Little also served as Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan's lead legislative liaison to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, which retains primary jurisdiction over most federal wetland conservation programs.

Little led conservation initiatives at Crater Lake National Park, the National Wildlife Federation, Oregon Natural Desert Association, and he most recently served as Executive Director of the Cascade Forest Conservancy. Little also represented different collaborative groups throughout his career, including the Southeast Oregon Resource Advisory Council and at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, and he currently serves as the Conservation Chair of the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, Washington Chapter.

Little lives in Camas, Wash., with his wife and two girls, where they launch their hunting and fishing adventures throughout the Pacific Northwest alongside their trusty Pudelpointer, Hazel.
