NORFOLK, Virginia - April 2, 2018 - Ducks Unlimited announced the winners of the 2018 Wetland Conservation Achievement Awards during the 83rd North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference.
This year's recipient in the Communication category is Dennis Anderson, outdoors columnist for the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
"Dennis' storytelling abilities promote our collective passion for waterfowling, while balancing advocacy for wildlife habitat conservation that keeps the plight of wetlands and prairies fresh in the minds of readers," said Tom Fulgham, Ducks Unlimited's chief communications officer.
Anderson received the award for his more than 30 years of balancing outdoor adventure stories with wildlife conservation advocacy articles that engage the public and remind them of the critical need for Ducks Unlimited's mission.
"Dennis has advocated for habitat conservation, public funding and state and federal legislative support that allows Ducks Unlimited and other nonprofit conservation groups to effectively do their jobs and make a difference to wildlife," said Jon Schneider, Ducks Unlimited regional biologist in Minnesota.
Anderson was instrumental in generating support for Minnesota's Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment to Minnesota's state constitution, which generates more than $300 million annually for conservation.
"It's an honor to be recognized by Ducks Unlimited, a group whose dedication to waterfowl, wetland habitat and the nation's natural heritage is unmatched." Anderson said.
Ducks Unlimited's Wetland Conservation Achievement Awards are presented annually in six categories to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the conservation and restoration of North America's wetlands and waterfowl.
