South Dakota Ducks Unlimited volunteers and members have a chance to hear about DUs conservation work and celebrate fundraising and habitat successes at the groups 2019 state convention. The event is scheduled for January 25-27 at the Ramkota Hotel in Pierre. Fun activities are planned for all ages, with a theme of A vacation in Hawaii, since DUs national convention will be held in the Aloha state in May.

Presenters at the Pierre convention will talk about Ducks Unlimiteds conservation work in South Dakota and other issues facing waterfowl and wildlife in the state. DU biologists work with interested landowners throughout South Dakota to restore, enhance and protect important habitats. One of the more exciting programs is DUs Soil Health Initiative, an innovative effort to promote soil health improvement practices that benefit both agricultural producers and wildlife, including waterfowl.

In addition to learning more about DUs conservation work, Dr. Jacob Kerby from the University of South Dakota will give a presentation on the results of a recent study of drain tile water and the contaminants found in tile drainage.

DU has invested over $100 million in South Dakota and has conserved over 500,000 acres since the early 1980s. These efforts enhance wildlife habitat for waterfowl, pheasants, deer, and many other species of wildlife and fish. People also benefit from Ducks Unlimiteds conservation work through improvements to water quality, soil conservation and recreational opportunities that helps maintain the states great quality of life.
