Conservation Icon Jim Konkel Remembered
The Ducks Unlimited family was deeply saddened by the loss of James (Jim) D. Konkel in late September. At the time of his passing, he was a Wetlands America Trust trustee, Ducks Unlimited Canada board member, Ducks Unlimited emeritus board member, National Shooting Subcommittee chair, and member of several other state- and national-level DU committees.
We will be forever grateful for the friendship, service, and philanthropy that Jim regularly extended to Ducks Unlimited, said DU CEO Adam Putnam. He was a true champion of our conservation mission and had genuine affection for everyone in DU. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife, Susan Konkel; his sister, Susie Konkel; and his father, Harry Konkel. We will miss him greatly.
Jims love for DU directly influenced the organizations conservation mission and its success, and his generous support for all things DU across North America was widely celebrated. I knew Jim for well over 20 years. He was a true friend and indeed a dedicated member of the DU family, said DU Chairman of the Board Doug Schoenrock. Jim gave himself wholeheartedly to the mission of Ducks Unlimited, whether it was volunteering at his local event in Maine or chairing our National Shooting Subcommittee. I will miss the enjoyment of hunting and fishing with Jim, but most importantly, I will miss his friendship.
