Steve and Kathy Christian are shining examples of the Ducks Unlimited family. Steve has been involved with DU since 1984, serving as Montana state chairman and currently as area chairman for the Medicine Lake and Colstrip chapters. Steve and Kathy's four children and their spouses are all DU Major Sponsors. And their six grandchildren are Legacy Greenwing members.
One of Steve's most memorable experiences with DU was the Prairie Experience event he attended in Bismarck, North Dakota. As a board member for Ducks Unlimited de Mexico (DUMAC), this special event inspired him to help develop a similar experience in the Yucatán.
"I liked the idea of bringing people to the habitat and showing them exactly how DU's efforts provide for waterfowl," Steve says. "Through the Mangrove Experience event we showcase the unique habitats of the Yucatán and their importance not only for ducks, but also for other birds like flamingos."
Steve has truly made his mark on Ducks Unlimited through the Mangrove Experience and many other contributions to the organization's conservation mission. Even more importantly, however, he has instilled in his children and grandchildren-and doubtless, generations to come-the importance of protecting habitats all over North America for the future of waterfowl, other wildlife, and people.
