Dear DU Supporter,
Recently, bipartisan companion bills were introduced in the House and Senate to increase the price of the federal duck stamp by Congressman Fleming (LA) and Senator Vitter (LA). The Federal Duck Stamp Act of 2014 increases the price from the current $15 to $25, an increase that represents half the price of a box of shotgun shells. The price of the duck stamp was last adjusted 23 years ago, and over this period the price of land has tripled, and our conservation buying power has diminished greatly. Once again, waterfowl hunters are willing to lead for conservation.
Ducks Unlimited strongly supports this effort to ensure that the investment waterfowl hunters have made toward protecting waterfowl habitat over the last 80 years is not eroded. Additionally, this legislation will help continue the conservation tradition of the federal duck stamp.
The Federal Duck Stamp Act of 2014 is originally co-sponsored in the House (H.R. 5069) by Congressmen Ron Kind (D-Wisconsin), Jason Smith (R-Missouri) and Rob Wittman (R-Virginia) and in the Senate (S. 2621) by Senators Mark Begich (D- Alaska), John Boozman (R-Arkansas), Chris Coons (D-Delaware), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Jon Tester (D-Montana).
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS TODAY and ask them to be a co-sponsor.
We have a great opportunity to have Congress pass this legislation, but it requires all of us to bring the urgent need for this increase to their attention. With your help in doing that, we can succeed.
Thanks for all you do for the Ducks!
