Virginia Conservation Easement Protects Critical Habitat
A conservation easement on the Westchester Plantation in Cumberland County, Virginia, was donated to Ducks Unlimited by WTL Properties LLC. This easement protects 455 acres of critical wildlife habitat, including a diverse mix of hardwood forests, agricultural lands, and 110 acres of wetlands that support waterfowl and other wetland-dependent wildlife in central Virginia.
The Westchester Easement is the eighteenth conservation easement held or co-held by Ducks Unlimited in the state of Virginia. Donated conservation easements are critical to DU's land protection program, providing a way to conserve wildlife habitat on private lands in perpetuity. Each easement is tailored to meet the needs and interests of individual landowners, allowing for the protection of key natural resources while keeping the land in use for economic gain or recreation.
