San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is located in Southern Brazoria and Eastern Matagorda counties, about 15 miles southeast of Sweeny, Texas. With multiple tracts spanning the Brazos and San Bernard River basins, the 45,730-acre refuge provides vital habitat for migrating and wintering birds and resident wildlife.

Ducks Unlimited partnered with Texas Rice Industry Coalition for the Environment (RICE) and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to repair a damaged water control structure on the Wolfweed Impoundment. Roller choppers were also used to knock down and break up noxious and invasive wolfweed throughout the Wolfweed Impoundment.

Project work impacted nearly 430 acres and will provide habitat benefits to coastal wildlife, including more than 320 species of birds, such as Mottled Ducks and Black Rails.
