Purpose: To develop brood rearing habitat for wood ducks on prior-converted agricultural lands through construction of dikes, ditch plugs and installation of water control structures on Pocosin Lakes NWR. Conservation efforts will restore 300 acres of wetland habitat that will directly benefit breeding wood ducks. Semi-permanent scrub-shrub wetlands will provide needed cover and food resources for young wood ducks. This project will be managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
