Lake Dardanelle WMA
Carbon City Waterfowl Rest Area
Carbon City Waterfowl Rest Area
Purpose: Approximately 53 acres of moist-soil wetlands have been restored through construction of external levees (14,000 cubic yards of dirt) and installation of 2 water control structures. In addition, a pumping station was installed to provide a dependable source of water during periods of drought. Management of impoundments would emphasize production of emergent plants that are important waterfowl foods, such as wild millet and smartweed. This project provides valuable foraging habitat to migrating and wintering waterfowl along the Arkansas River. The project is within the Lake Dardanelle Wildlife Management Area and is managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to maintain high quality wetland habitat for waterfowl, while providing public hunting opportunities.
