Ducks Unlimited provided $100,000 to The Nature Conservancy to acquire this 136 acre property on the Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area near LaGrande, Oregon. DU funding came from a grant awarded under the North American Wetlands Conservation Act. The Nature Conservancy then transferred the property to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to be managed as part of the Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area. DU is designing a wetland restoration and enhancement project on the site and will implement the project during the summer of 2005. The project will enhance approximately 100 acres of wetland habitat on both sides of the La Grande - Union highway. The project will provide excellent breeding and wintering habitat for waterfowl. In particular, a portion of the project's wetlands are naturally heated from adjacent hot springs and will maintain open water even during the coldest weather. The total cost of the wetland restoration and enhancement portion of the project is approximately $120,000 and is being paid for by Ducks Unlimited, funding from the NAWCA grant and state duck stamp funds provided by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
