DU to Continue Restoration of Alabama Wildlife Management Area
DU Regional Biologist Nick Biasini and Engineer Billy Hill recently met with Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division staff at Jackson County's Raccoon Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) to discuss building a new impoundment.
This project will build on the success of past habitat restoration work on the WMA, improving water-management capabilities on additional wetland acres and providing important wintering habitat for waterfowl.
Ducks Unlimited has completed a topographic survey of the proposed impoundment area and staff members are in the process of putting together a project design. Once the design is complete, DU, the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division, and the Tennessee Valley Authority will work together to acquire the funding needed to complete the project.
