MEMPHIS, Tenn. - May 19, 2021 - Ducks Unlimited (DU) and Cargill are focused on restoring watersheds across Colorado and Kansas over the next two years, building on their more than 20-year partnership in North America. To strengthen this partnership and support the work, Cargill awarded DU a grant of $400,000. Over the next two years, DU will use these funds for conservation and improved water quality and quantity across projects in the two states.

In Kansas, one project will restore at least 6,000 acres of playa wetlands and associated uplands along the Ogallala Aquifer/Playa Recharge. In Colorado, the partnership will restore crucial habitats for waterfowl and other wildlife, while enhancing the premier public recreation area in the Tamarack Water Recharge in the Platte River Recharge.

"We're grateful for our long-standing relationship with Cargill and excited to take our partnership to the next level in Kansas and Colorado," said DU Great Plains Region Managing Director of Development Eric Lindstrom. "These conservation investments will pay huge dividends in water sustainability, improved wildlife habitat and benefits to rural communities."

Cargill nourishes the world in a safe, responsible and sustainable way. Their position in the global food system provides the opportunity and the responsibility to create lasting change. Ducks Unlimited is thankful for this partnership as the two organizations work together to advance sustainable agriculture and water management in North America.

"Reliable access to water is essential for people and agriculture and with partners like DU, we are working toward our global goal of restoring 600 billion liters of water in priority watersheds," said Cargill Director of Global Water Sustainability Truke Smoor. "By focusing on priority watersheds, we can conserve groundwater aquifers and improve water availability for local communities."
