This spring Ducks Unlimited and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks finished a 100-acre wetland restoration on the Ninepipe National Wildlife Refuge. DU provided survey work, design, construction management, and biological consulting on this project. The restored wetland habitat will provide excellent breeding and migration habitat for a variety of waterfowl species. "The new project at Ninepipe is unique," Sanders said. "The wetlands we have restored are very shallow, averaging only about a foot in depth. The new water-control structures we've installed will allow managers to flood these shallow wetlands seasonally and grow some fantastic wetland vegetation that will attract plenty of birds."
This project was part of a North American Wetlands Conservation Act grant awarded to the Flathead Land Trust and partners. Ducks Unlimited and the federal duck stamp program provided additional funding.
