So the spot we hunted last year on opening day was about 16 inches last year and we hammered the teal on opening morning. This year it is about 2-3 inches..... will birds come into that? Is it possible to hunt it?

I've shot teal in water that shallow.  That would make for some easy feeding for them little ducks.  But you never know until you try.  But I think they will decoy just fine

a foot or less is normally the key for teal. even mud flats can be a good place to get into them. like normal scouting is key

Yea they are there at just a few inches, my worry is placing decoys, having visible footprints that can rise above the water etc... I would just prefer 8-12 inches instead. Definetly aren't getting any big ducks in there.

In my opinion you over thinking it. Ive never once worried about foot prints scaring birds nor have a ever noticed it making a difference. Now the real problem you have is putting dekes out. Yes its too shallow for floaters so if you have full bodies run them if not dcvr makes stakes that slip around keels to make floaters into full bodies

Well, we hunted the 2-3 inch spot on opening day and hammered them, teal and mallards. We shot more birds than anyone else that we saw on the lake that day.... Good times!
