Any of you Winchester SXP owners put your guns to the pattern board yet? I ask because I have started to and am trying to find what you guys have tried and what were your findings? So far I have ran blindside #2's, Fasteel #2's and #3's threw mine with the Fasteel shotshells giving the best patterns thru the factory Imp. cyl. but the patterns aren't as good as I expect in comparing to some of the other guns I have or had. I'm deffinently going to invest in a set of Carlson waterfowl chokes sometime here, but I am curious what you guys are finding with some other brands of shells thru the factory chokes.

Thanks, Vincent

I got the Carlson waterfowl chokes and patterned my SXP with them and had 100 times better patterns with everything except Kent #2 in 3" or 3 1/2". I got to find some #2's  that will give me a good pattern with this thing for hunting mallards on lakes here. I get some longer shots and prefer them over #3's for that stuff. I still have to pattern some blindside 3" #2's that I have thru the Carlsons to see if I can get a useable pattern out of it. If any of you have some suggestions of something that would be worth trying I'm all ears.

The IC choke is .12, which is what I was getting the most even patterns with smaller steel. The gun is back bored to .742 (Browning invector plus). I find the back boring is better with #BB loads, but the IC patterns look like lead IC patterns, which isn't necessarily a bad thing for where I hunt woodducks, but I still need to figure something out for when I hunt on bigger water. I'd like to run #2's through a modified choke in those situations.

As you know, every gun is different. However, I patterned several loads out of my Browning Silver (same Inv. + choke as yours) and found that Federal Speed Shok #2s patterned dramatically better than other steel loads with my factory full at 40 yds. I also tested the same gun with a Briley (personal favorite brand) Improved Modified extended choke, which delivered excellent results with about as much evenness and yielded percentage as you could hope for from a cheap steel load. Might give 'em a try....

Thanks Flannel. I have a box of them in my basement that I will try out.

I have a Winchester SXP and am interested in buying a set of Carlson Choke's; should I get the set that fits the "Winchester, Browning Invector, Mossberg Model 500, Weatherby and Savage," or the set that fits the "Browning Invector Plus"?  I have the DU model of the Winchester SXP and am curious as to which set to get.

if its a new model you need to the plus model chokes, the older winchester pumps had the same choke as the mossberg 500

Exactly right. The SXP is a invector plus choked gun.
