I just bought a Remington 870 Super Mag in Max 4 camp so I could get into duck hunting finally. Any thoughts on whats the best ammo to cycle through it for ducks? Ive heard of alot of fancy ammo's such as "Blindside" "Black Cloud", are there any differences or is it like man jewlery.

Thanks Guys

If you are shoot decoying ducks with it then 1) go get some low cost traditional round steel loads like Rem Sportsman, Fed Speed-shok or even Win Xpert (not quite round) loads, 2) use #2, #3 or #4 size pellets, 3) get your factory IC and Mod chokes and 4) go shoot some patterns at the distance you shoot your ducks.  Chances are a 1 1/8 or 1 1/4 oz load will take care of any duck killin business you have.

Patterning results form a 12-gauge 3" Remington 870 Special Purpose with a 28" barrel and factory flush Rem-chokes (patterns average of five, 30" post-shot scribed circle, yardage taped muzzle to target, and in-shell pellet count average of five).

Sportsman Steel   2 3/4"      1 1/8 oz #4 steel (218 pellets) / pattern 181 (83%)
Sportsman Steel   2 3/4"      1 1/8 oz #2 steel (139 pellets) / pattern 120 (86%)

40 YARDS Mod.
Sportsman Steel   2 3/4"      1 1/8 oz #4 steel (218 pellets) / pattern 150 (69%)
Sportsman Steel   2 3/4"      1 1/8 oz #2 steel (139 pellets) / pattern 110 (79%)

As you can see from the pattern numbers, those are dead ducks if I do my part and put the pattern on the duck!

Good luck

Like Joe said, pattern cheap stuff. If you buy expensive shells and they pattern good..... use them if you don't mind spending the money. Its all about what you like and what works well for you. As for me, cheap shells kill plenty of ducks and it is more economical for me.

Another thing I was wondering about is if anyone knows if the 870 jamming problem has been fixed? I havent been able to cycle any rounds through mine yet

I bought a new 870 express before last season and have been pleased with it. I killed a lot of ducks with it and never jammed once. I tried a lot of different ammo brands, Hevy Metal worked real well for me and patterned the best. I used mostly modified and some imp. Thinking about a light modified for next season.

Thats good to hear, I've been nervous to shoot it after reading the hundreds upon hundreds of negative posts about the 870 jamming and made me regret my purchase. I'm going to cycle alot of rounds through it this weekend. Thanks for the input
